Emotional and impulsive
She was begging her partner not to leave her alone. She was crying out loud, trying to hold on to him with the fear that he may abandon her. Although he is going on a business trip. However, she has this deep fear that he will abandon her. She feels lost without him and wants to be with him all the time. She does everything she can in her capacity to gain love and attention, but other people perceive it as manipulation.
This is the painful life of a person with borderline personality disorder (BPD). BPD is a complex disorder characterized by unstable and intense emotions, identity confusion, self-doubt, and insecurity. An individual with BPD has difficulty regulating emotions, leading to rapid shifts in moods, black and white thinking, and a tendency to self-harm and suicide.
Having BPD is not easy. A person is continuously on an emotional roller coaster. Emotional highs will be euphoric, and experience the lowest lows causing extreme guilt, worthlessness, emotional pain, self-harm, or even suicidal ideations and attempts.
Individuals with BPD have highly unstable and fluctuating relationships with everyone. They trust easily; however, they always fear abandonment and are insecure in a relationship. To save a relationship, they leash out the other person because they have a skill deficit, an inability to regulate emotions. This inability is the main feature of this disorder.
Despite great efforts, they still can’t contain the hurricane of emotions. They trigger easily and will say or do things they feel can improve the situation. However, later, they feel guilty and regretful, experiencing the lowest lows, and the cycle continues.
