8 IMPORTANT QUALITIES  OF A LEADER

How does a a leader differ from a leader? What qualities do you need to become a true leader?

Relationships in any company are divided into formal and informal. Some depend on job responsibilities, subordination, and leadership, while others depend on relationships in the team. A top-appointed leader is not always a leader, and a leader does not necessarily have a leadership position. But it is the leader who often knows how to combine different (formal and informal) management tools, motivate employees to complete tasks, and achieve results.

As a mentor and motivational speaker, I have  helped many people in developing leadership qualities. In this article, I will explain a few important qualities of a good leader. This article will help you to develop these qualities in you. So let’s discuss the modern leadership model. This will help you to understand the further article.

MORDEN LEADERSHIP MODELS

Leadership is based on a successful combination of formal (leader) and informal (leader) methods of managing a team to achieve set goals. Let’s take three modern leadership models (in fact, there are many more concepts and models of leadership ):

  1. Attributive leadership: theleader monitors the actions of subordinates and, based on his observations, decides how best to build relationships with each of them. The attitude of subordinates also influences the leader.
  2. Charismatic leadership:influence is built on the personal qualities (charisma) of the leader and his management style.
  3. Transformative Leadership: Theleader knows how to combine the personal goals of subordinates with the goals of the company. In this model, the manager stimulates employees to develop, raises their consciousness, and convinces them of the importance of common tasks.

More interesting are the charismatic and transformative concepts of leadership: they have a place for the “classic” leader – a charming person with abilities and high motivation. It is such a person who is capable of capturing subordinates with him. What qualities should he possess?

LEADERSHIP QUALITIES

Emotional intellect

The leader must see and correctly interpret the emotions, motivation, intentions of colleagues, and subordinates. Developed emotional intelligence, as one of the flexible skills, helps to manage your own and others’ emotions.

High level of motivation

The leader does not need external stimuli, he is initiative, does his job better than others, and his energy is enough to motivate others. High self – motivation is a sign of leadership.

Self-confidence and optimism

He does not flaunt his weaknesses, objectively evaluates reality, and is confident in himself. Difficulties only fuel his interest in work.

Professionalism and responsibility

The leader takes responsibility for the result, does not shift it onto the shoulders of subordinates, is always involved in the process himself, and comes to the aid of employees if problems arise. He views business as a system and affects the energy of the entire company.

As a motivational speaker, I know the importance of leadership. You have to consider the needs and requirements of different people. You cannot neglect them. A lot of people come and ask silly questions. Still, a leader should show professionalism and answer all the queries, including the silly one.

Labor authority

The leader has an unquestionable working authority. The basis of authority is moral and professional qualities. It is earned for many years. An effective leader maintains cleanliness in business, he or she is a good specialist, disciplined, fair in relation to colleagues, and balanced in communication.

Personal effectiveness

The leader is effective. The personal effects of the leader are the basis of the productivity of his subordinates. Components of success:

  • Time management,
  • The ability to plan their work,
  • Knowledge of the subject area,
  • The ability to set tasks, and control the work of employees.

Negotiation skills

The leader knows how to negotiate: with management, colleagues from other departments, subordinates, contractors. And for each “type” of opponents, a different negotiation strategy is needed – all have different motives.  All leaders who have this quality is considered a good leader in any field.

Charisma and ability to build communications

Charismatic managers know how to communicate with colleagues, and achieve results faster than others, with less effort.
